Make a UPI Payment Safely and Verify the Result
A few deliberate checks can reduce common UPI mistakes: verify the recipient, understand that a PIN authorises payment and save the status.

Before approving a payment, inspect the payee name and amount shown in the payment app. A QR code or payment request can direct money to an unexpected recipient, so do not proceed just because a caller says it is urgent. If a person asks you to scan a code to receive money, stop and verify independently.
Treat the PIN as an authorisation
A UPI PIN is used to authorise a debit; do not disclose it to a caller, merchant, support agent or person offering to reverse a payment. Use only the app's built-in steps and never install remote-access software at an unknown person's request. NPCI's safety guidance explains common precautions, but no payment method is immune to social engineering.
Handle pending and mistaken payments
After a transfer, retain its reference number and check the transaction status in the app and bank account. If it is pending, avoid repeated transfers until the status is clear. For an unauthorised or mistaken debit, contact the bank and payment provider promptly through verified channels and follow their complaint process; keep all reference numbers.
