Check space before updating

Games and updates can use substantial storage, and a device may need extra room to install files. Review the console or PC's available space and its official storage-management instructions before deleting anything. Confirm that saved data is handled separately; removing an installed game does not necessarily mean the same thing as deleting its save.

Choose a good download window

On a limited or shared internet connection, check the update's displayed size and consider when a download will least affect other household use. A wired connection may be an option if supported, but router layout and service plans differ. Avoid assuming that a download speed shown by one test predicts the exact time for every game update.

Use official storage steps

Menus and external-drive compatibility vary by platform and model. Follow current manufacturer instructions for moving or deleting games, formatting storage and preserving saves. Do not unplug a drive or power off during an active transfer. If the device reports an error, consult its official support page before trying a reset that might remove data.
